Ces autels sont richement décorés et je suppose, copieusement dotés d’offrandes de la part des visiteurs.
777 marches, c’est un véritable pèlerinage !
Je suppose que l’homme à l’entrée est chargé de récupérer les dons en monnaie sonnante et trébuchante ?
Non, l’accès est complètement gratuit et chaque visiteur est libre de faire ou non, des dons directement aux différents autels qui jalonnent le parcours. Les touristes Birmans sont nombreux discrets et accueillants, vis vis des touristes internationaux, au contraire très peu nombreux. J’ai beaucoup apprécié cet état d’esprit.

Il règne calme et sérénité quand on attend la terrasse tout en haut et l’escalade n’est pas si difficile que cela, la preuve j’ai 81 ans !mois et 5 jours aujourd’hui même.

In fact, it is not very difficult, there are many landings along this route and multitudes of stops with public benches in order to catch your breath and recover well.

I am stunned by this series of photos. The opulence displayed is incredible and impressive, yet the little neon lights fringing so much cheapens the display. And the historical Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama) did not care for gold or material wealth. After leaving his royal palace, he lived as an ascetic. But I guess all religions do this to some extent – the poor shepherd Jesus is now venerated in massive cathedrals across the world. But as for your photos, they are indeed beautiful.
Indeed, what you tell me is a paradox Prince Siddhartha Gautama certainly did not want (no more than Christ) all this timeless veneration.
