La couleur, dans un de mes tableaux, est tout autant définie par sa vitesse, sa transparence, sa matité, son épaisseur, ses couches profondes, que par sa teinte qui la rapprocherait de tel paysage aimé ou de telle figure connue.
La peinture ouvre mon imagination à des espaces infinis où les notions communes de haut et de bas, de proche ou de lointain, se fondent dans la courbure de l’univers. Le tableau me permet d’accomplir une errance colorée, un voyage qui me conduit de la pesanteur du limon à l’éclat de l’étoile. Cet espace en expansion, contenu dans la matière dont est faite la peinture, dans le bref espace de la toile, dans le geste de la main peignant, est devenu actif dans mon œuvre dès le moment où j’ai compris que le tableau ne pouvait se contenter de figurer une fenêtre ouverte sur le monde mais qu’il était un champ, beaucoup plus large, beaucoup plus ancien, où circule l’énergie fossile du monde visible.
Inlassablement, chaque jour, je cherche à faire coïncider matière et vision parce que l’expansion du monde, sa courbure, sa musique – je l’ai reconnu, cela me trouble et me stimule à la fois -, font écho à la course sans fin de l’univers, écho à mon errance colorée.
Colour, in one of my paintings, is just as defined by its speed, transparency, dullness, thickness, deep layers, as by its hue that would bring it closer to such a beloved landscape or a known figure.
Painting opens my imagination to infinite spaces where the common notions of top and bottom, near or far, merge into the curvature of the universe. The painting allows me to complete a colourful wandering, a journey that leads me from the gravity of the silt to the brilliance of the star. This expanding space, contained in the material from which the painting is made, in the brief space of the canvas, in the gesture of the painting hand, became active in my work from the moment I understood that the painting could not be content to appear a window open to the world but that it was a field, much wider, much older, where the fossil energy of the visible world circulates.
Tirelessly, every day, I seek to make matter and vision coincide because the expansion of the world, its curvature, its music – I recognised it, it disturbs me and stimulates me at the same time -, echo the endless race of the universe, echo of my colourful wandering.
